Multiple award winning John Westheuser is an accomplished broadcast cinematographer / director internationally recognized for his skilled, character-driven storytelling. As cinematographer his recent credits include the 2011 International Emmy Award Winner for Best Documentary LIFE WITH MURDER, the acclaimed MONSTER IN THE HOUSE, Sundance Film Festival Audience Award and Emmy Award Winner for Best Documentary, SHAKE HANDS WITH THE DEVIL. As DP/director on factual series, John’s credits are extensive including the ratings hit LICENSE TO DRILL winning two Gemini Awards for Best Direction and Best Documentary Series. His other DP/ directing credits include series’ THE WEEK THE WOMEN WENT, JETSTREAM, KINK and INSIDE THE BIGGEST a 2-hour special which launched the series MIGHTY SHIPS. John’s work has appeared on CBC-TV, CTV, Global TV, The Discovery Channel, History Canada, TV Ontario, A&E, Channel 4 and BBC. His feature films and documentaries have screened and collected awards at The Toronto International Film Festival, HotDocs, The Berlin International Film Festival, and Cannes International Film Festival. John began his career in news and current affairs, always with an eye for character. In 1990 he co-created the ground-breaking and critically acclaimed CBC-TV current affairs series, LIFE: THE PROGRAM.
